Quick naps for a better day: The power of napping 💤
Feeling tiresome by the afternoon? A cheeky nap might be just the ticket to boost your day! Here’s why a power nap can be a real game-changer and how to make the most out of it.
The science behind napping:
Increased alertness: A short nap can reduce fatigue, the risk of accidents and increase productivity.
Improves memory: Short naps can enhance memory and learning.
Boosts mood: Napping helps improve mood and reduce stress.
Enhances creativity: A quick nap can boost your creative problem-solving skills.
So, what can be done about it? Here are a few tips for an effective nap:
Fall asleep fast: Easier said then done, right? Falling asleep fast is a talent, and we would love to get our hands on the secret behind being able to fall asleep the moment you close your eyes. Say goodbye to counting sheep while trying to sleep because weighted eye masks, or eye masks in general, are proven to help you fall asleep faster.
Simulated studies have shown that by using sleep masks, especially if paired with earplugs, people were able to fall asleep faster. This is because they block out the light and also any possible distractions that can deter you from your goal of falling asleep. In addition, weighted eye masks will help calm your sleep anxiety and signal your brain that it is bedtime.
Create a restful environment: The body can easily relax in a calm external environment, free from light and other sources of distraction. Thus, the focus would be on falling asleep.
With gentle pressure, weighted eye masks can cause these sleep enhancers. In addition, the pressure will also stimulate the nervous system to produce mood-boosting hormones that improve the body’s calmness and ultimately help you get a great rest. Sleeping experts also agree that a dark environment is vital to falling asleep faster and having a good rest.
Blocking out light with a sleep mask, using comfortable bedding and a cool room will enhance the restfulness of your nap.
Nap early: Aim to nap before three in the afternoon to avoid disrupting your nighttime sleep. Napping too late in the day can interfere with your regular sleep cycle, making it harder to fall asleep at night. The optimal nap time is usually in the early afternoon, when there is a natural dip in alertness.

Ethically Kate: Why this wool duvet is New Zealand's best
My grandmother once told me never to compromise on a good bed or good shoes; because if you’re not in one, you’re in the other! I reckon the Kind Face duvet is the best duvet for all New Zealanders.
Niki Bezzant | Sleep and Perimenopause: Help, My Hormones Have Stolen My Sleep!
Niki Bezzant: When I asked women to tell me about their experiences of perimenopause in the research for my book, one of the top 5 symptoms that came up in the list was sleep disturbance. As with most things related to perimenopause, the answer is not just one thing. It’d be wonderful if there was a magic solution, but usually it’s multi-factorial. We need to look at all the pieces of the puzzle.
